EmpowerME: Women's Trauma & Recovery Empowerment Group

EmpowerME: The Women’s Trauma Recovery & Empowerment Group of Maine is unlike any other trauma support group in the area. While other groups focus on education and coping strategies, EmpowerME takes that one step further to focus on building community, establishing relationships, and breaking the stigma often associated with women’s trauma. Women who participate in the group often share that they feel heard, seen, and understood, sometimes for the first time in their lives. The program has received an overwhelmingly positive response from both participants and other professionals.

If you are one of the 1 in 10 women who has been affected by a traumatic event in your life, this support group may be for you. EmpowerME is open to all adult women with a history of trauma. Past groups have been made up of diverse groups of women of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Trauma can include, but is not limited to:

  • Emotional, physical or sexual abuse in childhood;

  • Abandonment or neglect;

  • Sexual assault;

  • Domestic violence;

  • Experiencing or witnessing a crime;

  • Institutional abuse;

  • Cultural dislocation or sudden loss;

  • Terrorism, war;

  • Natural disasters.

A new group starts April 18th with the enrollment period lasting through the end of May. Please contact Larissa Brown to sign up at info@empowermemaine.com
