Beginner Yoga Series with Melissa Urey
Melissa Urey will be offering a Beginner Yoga Series which will run on 6/5, 6/19 and 6/26.
Our beginner series is aimed at making yoga accessible to you. These workshops are perfect for you if you are new to yoga or have stepped away and are looking to step back in. Each class will include gentle warm ups to prepare the body for practice, some introductory breath work practices and ideas for modifications as we move through each posture.
Workshop #1: Introduction to Joint Openers and Seated Postures
In this class we will introduce some exercises in the Pawanmuktasana series. This series is excellent for releasing tension and energy blockages in the joints of the body, and improving coordination and self confidence. This class is excellent for anyone who has joint issues or who may otherwise feel that yoga is inaccessible to them.
Workshop #2: Introduction to Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)
In this class we will break down a traditional sun salutation. We will cover each posture individually so that correct alignment can be understood. We will then put them together in a gentle flow sequence paying attention to how the body transitions from one posture to the next. Forward fold, low lunge, plank, cobra and downward dog will all be covered in this class.
Workshop #3: Introduction to Standing Postures
In this class we will learn some of the more popular standing postures such as Warrior I and II, Triangle and Tree. Benefits of these postures along with proper alignment and modifications will be covered.
